A Visual Vocabulary for Hands in Mourning
Digital Photography
64 photographs, 12" x 18" each
2013
I started to collect images from newspapers and the Internet of people grieving publicly. As my collection of images grew, I was drawn to the positioning of people’s hands, and how expressive hands become in moments of grief. A Visual Vocabulary for Hands in Mourning is a photographic series where I reenact the poses of the hands of people in mourning. This series consists of 64 images.
